About

This site exists as a safe space for onion lovers. We get a “bad” rap (smelly, unrefined, pedestrian), but if you look closer, maybe it’s a point of pride to love onions.

Shrek, an ogre, compares himself to an onion. Your first assumption might be: because he’s stinky, ugly, and lives in a swamp? But as he points out, the real similarity is in the layers. It’s good to be layered, complex, and more divine than meets the eye – qualities ogres and onions share. There can be value and joy behind a grubby ogre-like exterior, behind pungent smells, and behind seemingly useless layers of papery, dirt-kissed skin.

Yes, onions leave lingering smells on your hands, cutting board, and tongue. But isn’t all the joy worth it? Like playing in the rain, the juice is worth the squeeze. Of course, you don’t have to agree with me. But I am an unwavering OnionFan.

And I say: Onion Fans, Onion Evangelists, Onion Obsessives, Onion Apologists… Unite!

I’m an OnionFan.
